As someone who grew up listening to Northern Soul and Mod bands, being in a photoshoot with a Vespa was like a dream come true. Not kidding!
Vespa is, with no doubt, the most popular motorcycle brand in history. It all started in Italy in the 1950s, when the first motorcycles were made for the public. But it wasn’t until the 1960s when it became an icon among the younger generations, and specially in the mod scene.
A couple of months ago I had to chance to be photographed with a Vespa from the 1950s. This beautiful white design from 1957 belongs to a friend from the photographer, Jordi, who very kindly let us use it for the photoshoot. And I must say I am very pleased with the results!
Classic Vespas also remind me of the lovely Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, as well as of European actresses such as Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot. They all were photographed on a Vespa in the 50s and 60s.
Here I’m featuring two different pin up looks that I think match really well with the Vespa. The first one featured a Mexican inspired skirt from Goldies Clothing with a Pinupgirl Clothing top in white, while the second look features a Mexican inspired top (also from Goldies Clothing) with a pair of gingham shorts from Collectif Clothing.
I loved the idea of posing on a Vespa, just like those Gil Elvgren pin up illustrations from the 1940s and 1950s. Apologies for not posting in a month, I’ve been so busy lately! But do not worry, I have a couple of blog posts ready, so stay tuned! I’m sure you’ll love them. These gingham shorts have become a staple in my wardrobe during warmer weather season. I’m wearing a size 12 and fits really good, with enough room for those days when I want to eat a bit more.
Hope you all enjoyed the post! All photos by REH Photography
