Vintage shopping in Burbank & Long Beach

In a couple of months it’s going to mark exactly one year since I visited California. I fell in love with Burbank and its vintage and antiques shops, so I decided to write a post with the shops I visited during my trip.

Playclothes Vintage
Magnolia Blvd is the jam for vintage. Seriously! And Playclothes Vintage is definitely the place to go. They have a large space with different rooms and all kinds of vintage and antiques you can think of. From lingerie, pottery to casual garments, they specialise in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Swift Vintage
We visited the shop just to check if they had anything interesting, and we found great stuff for men. The owner even offered us a discount for a repro vintage western jacket. Check the bakelite and jewelry collection they have.

Pinup Girl Boutique

They sell repro garments and accesorize from Pinup Girl Clothing. A must visit when you’re in California! Friendly stuff and fantastic atmosphere. Plus they have the best clothes one can ever buy!

Audrey K Boutique

They have their own range of clothing and also sell other repro brands. Audrey, the owner, also sells vintage inspired purses and other products perfect as a gift. Check their social media to see if they organize any yard sale with Pinup Girl Clothing when you’re around!

Besame Cosmetics
I’m sure you’ve all heard about Besame Cosmetics, the most popular vintage inspired make up brand. All their products are cruelty free and present a beautiful packaging. Perfect to channel your inner Hollywood diva! Don’t forget to visit their shop in Burbank, in front of Pinup Girl Clothing.

BAIT Footwear
Located in Long Beach, they sell the cutest shoes you’ll ever wear. Their designs are all cruelty free and are vintage inspired. Make sure to visit their shop!

Sneaky Tiki Boutique

Fans of the tiki culture have a place to visit when in Long Beach. Sneaky Tiki Boutique offers vintage clothing and accessorize with something in common: the tiki aesthetics.

Meow

Also located in Long Beach’s Retro Row – the best area to shop vintage – one can find Meow, a kitschy shop full of surprises. They even sell vintage fridges! Make sure to check their shop, where they have areas set by decade.

These are some of the shops I visited last year, can’t wait to go back!

Pinup Girl Clothing meets American Horror Story: Coven

I don’t know about you, but every October I get pretty excited for Halloween and all the creepy stuff out there. Yes, I nerd a lot about themed styles and parties, and pretend I am going to one although my plans are always the same: staying in.
Anyway, here’s a bit of inspiration from Pinup Girl Clothing. They have just posted a new Lookbook inspired by American Horror Story: Coven, which was set in New Orleans and led by a group of glamorous witches.
I would definitely wear all these beautiful garments on the night of October, 31st, they look amazingly gorgeous on the models.
Have a great week x
P.S. Also, stay tuned on my Facebook and IG accounts. I will list more items on my Etsy shop soon!

She’s a Lady

I have been busy with personal issues and I have decided to move the shop opening to next month. Things have changed drastically in my life and I am a bit uncertain about the future.
Anyway…Don’t worry! I will open the shop and keep up with the blog.
The other day, while looking for garments suitable for the shop, I came across a beautiful dress that I was intending to sell. Not anymore ’cause it is so gorgeous that I had to keep it!

It is a late 50s/early 60s dress from a Spanish designer in perfect condition and has pockets!

I was so excited to keep it that I had to get some photographs on it. Excuse the bad quality photos, but I had to take that opportunity to get pictured with my “new” hair!
All shots taken in my grandma’s flat, which, as you can see, is like being in a Film set.

Have a lovely week, folks!

Where to buy Vintage repro

Hello lovelies.

It’s sale season! Also known as that time of the year when you compulsively buy tons of new clothing for the upcoming months (including winter, of course).  Lately I have started buying clothes online; although sometimes it can be a bit more expensive that in downtown Barcelona, it allows me to get whatever I want. It is really hard to find vintage reproduction where I live; that’s why I shop on the net.
Here are my favourite brands to buy clothes from:

Established in London, UK, it is one of my favourite vintage-inspired brands. All their garments and accessories take influence from the 1940s and the 1950s at reasonable prices (compared to other brands it’s affordable). The sizing runs large, so make sure to pick a size down when you buy something from them. Although they use many colours for their clothing, the palette mainly consists on green, red and black.

One of the most popular US based sites to buy vintage repro and cute stuff. They constantly offer discounts and sale items for short periods of time. The best way to shop in time is to subscribe to their weekly newsletter, which shows you the most amazing items according to your likes and views on the page. The price range is wide, depending on the label of the item and if it is imported or not. Clothing and other stuff from their house brands is cheaper than, let’s just say, Hell Bunny or Collectif, which can be bought there too. Probably the biggest online shop to buy cute dresses with lovely and juicy designs. Also, If you download their Iphone App you get 20$ off your first order!

When I first got into vintage and retro designs, I had a huge obsession on Kling, a Spanish clothing line that creates stuff for young women who want to look like a Sophia Coppola character. All their designs are inspired by Coppola’s own world, as well as by Wes Anderson‘s. Big coats, pastel colours, cute logos and girly shirts. All their items are 50% off now, and shipping to Europe is FREE.

The place to buy all you dream of. You can find anything retro, handmade and cute. Etsy is social a platform to connect sellers with buyers. The site is specialised in second hand, handmade stuff and jewellery. Sellers and buyers from all over the world interact everyday, with safe payment and quality goods. There are lots of vintage clothing sellers willing to find a home to their garments. & they often offer discounts, so make sure to have a look and…start shopping!

If you want to look like a Classic Hollywood starlet, make sure to buy from Pinup Girl Clothing, based in California. They offer all types of garments in different patterns and styles to encourage and empower women. They want to make women proud of themselves no matter the size and the colour of their skin. Clothing made for all types of women. The brand is very active on social networks, and they constantly organize meetups, giveaways and promotional codes.

5 reasons to buy vintage

Ever wondered why you prefer wearing vintage garments rather than repro? Lately I have been thinking about it, so here go my 5 reasons to love (and wear vintage).
  1. Background. Probably the first thing that comes to your mind when buying vintage: what you wear has history on its back. It was worn or used by someone else way before me. It is so intriguing, isn’t it?
  2. Price. Thrifted clothes and other materials are cheaper than modern stuff. It is also due to the condition in which they have been kept over the years.
  3. Quality. We all know that nowadays there are many advances in technology, so as in fashion, but decades ago garments were made from pure and non synthetic materials, not like today. These days you have to spend over 200€ on a dress to wear quality garments, made from natural or ecologic sources.
  4. Go green! Better re-use than refuse. It is better for everyone, and the environment will be very grateful.
  5. Originality. You will definitely “break the rules of fashion”. If you are against mainstream trends, this is your point. Vintage is not hip, but it makes you look cool and true to yourself.

I could write many other reasons to wear vintage, but these are the main ones that have come across my mind at the moment. I think they sum up well.
If you have any reasons that could be included on the post, feel free to suggest. I would kindly add more!
Take care xx
